A powerful symbol of Geneva, the Cathédrale Saint-Pierre stands out far beyond the old town.
At the heart of its nave, the Metzler organ plays an essential role: it accompanies services and other official events, but also attracts renowned organists from around the world every year, performing to an ever-growing audience.

The Metzler organ, inaugurated in 1965 by Pierre Segond, is the fourth grand organ in the Cathédrale Saint-Pierre in Geneva since the Reformation. Designed by the Swiss manufacturer Metzler in Dietikon (ZH) in a neo-baroque style, combining North German, French and romantic influences, it has 68 stops spread over four keyboards and a pedalboard, offering a rich and versatile sound. Every year, not counting religious and official ceremonies, more than 25 concerts are given on it, enhancing the reputation of the Cathedral and Geneva.

In 2026, this majestic instrument undergoes an exceptional restoration.
Over a period of four months, Metzler carries out a major renovation, an operation that takes place only once every 20 years, during which the instrument is dismantled, cleaned, refurbished and modernised to accommodate both classical and contemporary repertoire in the best possible conditions. This work is led by organ builders Andreas Metzler and Michael Klahre and supervised by Vincent Thévenaz, the Cathedral’s titular organist. It will preserve the organ for future generations.
